For the Kamen Rider Dragon Knight feature in the most recent issue of Otaku USA, I found myself fortunate enough to talk to Yvonne Arias who plays the aspiring journalist, Maya Young. Like the other interviews in this series, word limits prevented them showing up as sidebars in magazine. So, to atone for this, here they are uncut for your online reading pleasure.

So, to start off, what twists of fate led you into the acting game?

Would you believe the September 11 attacks? I know, it's ironic that such a horrific event brought more joy into my life, but it did. At the time, I was working in an office, a far cry from being a performer. That event led me to some heavy self-examination and I made some drastic changes. During this course of events, I had fallen in love with a travel show on the Discovery Channel and that's what got me started. I was so inspired by the show, that it led me to pursue one of my own. I produced and starred in my own lifestyle show called "Up to the Minute.•bCrLf   While doing this, I was encouraged to get an agent. In a short time, I was successful in commercials and modeling work that presented some acting opportunities. I resisted at first, but then began exploring acting. One of my biggest influences is Woody Allen. I am determined to work with him

More recently, I graduated from a two-year acting program. I'm so proud! During its course, I decided to take the first year off to focus on my studies. As soon as I returned to the TV and film world, I got the role of Maya Young on Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. It's pretty amazing because I had been telling my close friends that I wanted to be involved in a superhero franchise and it came true!

Could you tell us a bit about Maya? What made you want to go out for that particular character?

Maya is smart, savvy and determined. In addition to that, she has a great heart. She works in a bookstore, but also works as a paranormal investigative reporter. Her life changes when she meets Kit Taylor and begins to find out about his dad's mysterious disappearance and the world of Ventara.

That's all I can say for now, but as you've read, Maya has a pretty interesting life and that's why I was so excited when I first learned about the role. I was also intrigued by the "paranormal" world.   After much research, I'm even more intrigued. Another reason why I love acting? The variety of subjects you learn are numerous.

Having come off of shows like E.R. and even Passions, what was it like going into this show? Were you aware of the pre-existing fanbase before/during the making the series?

I had no expectations going into the show. I was familiar with the franchise, but had no idea of its popularity. Steve and Michael Wang were pretty good at getting me up to speed!

The best thing about KRDK is the existing fanbase and that's great for us because most shows aren't as fortunate to have such amazing support. Now it's about meeting those expectations, which I know we've done from viewing some of the episodes.

How was it working with Stephen, Matt, and the others?

I love those guys! We had so much fun. Seriously though, Stephen, Matt and the rest of the cast, crew and Adness Entertainment were so wonderful to me. I'm pretty blessed to have had this opportunity.

Without giving away anything, what can we expect to see from Maya throughout the show? Are there any moments that you're especially proud of?

I can guarantee you'll be wowed!! In the early episodes, expect to see a lot of Maya's compassion and intrigue, but get ready for some surprising adventure and serious antics as the series unfolds. There is one particular moment I'd like to brag about, but it'd be a spoiler. Patience!

I've gotta ask; at any point did you wish you could get in on the stunt work and fight scenes?

Oh, yeah! I was very jealous of their slick moves. In fact, I'm about to begin studying Wing Chun Kung Fu, as recommended by Steve Wang. You better watch out!

When you're not on-camera, what do you do for fun?

Right now, I love amusement parks! I'm going to Knott's Berry Farm soon and I can't wait to go to Disneyland. If you haven't there been during Christmas, it's a must! Besides that, I love the beach, hikes, going out to restaurants, bike riding, shopping, concerts, the list can go on and on...

What's next on the horizon for you?

How about Woody Allen's next film? Or the next Bond girl? My acting future is bright. I have quite a few projects lined up, so you'll just have to wait and see.

So what would you say are your final feelings on Dragon Knight? Do you think you'll be able to look back years from now and still hold it in high regard?

Of course I will hold it in high regard! This show has made a major impact on me. It's the first time I'm starring in a television show. To us actors, that's huge! We finished shooting in April of this year, and even looking back now, it's pretty amazing to say it was a "job" because I had so much fun doing it. I'm very grateful.

Anything you'd like to say to the Dragon Knight fans out there?

I've seen quite a few of the finished episodes and I'm so proud of the show!   I know all the fans are going to love it too and we are truly grateful for their support.  You guys are awesome!
