Crunchyroll CEO, Kun Gao, appeared as a guest on the latest ANNCast, where he made an announcement regarding his company's latest endeavor: DVDs.
Primarily known for streaming, Crunchyroll is branching out with their first DVD release, 5 Centimeters Per Second, the 2007 film by Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days).
Crunchyroll isn't going it alone, though. While they'll be handling the production, promotion and financing of the release, Bandai Entertainment is assisting with the manufacturing, packaging and distribution. According to Gao, they're hoping to ship the disc with Bang Zoom! Entertainment's English dub included in late September or early October.
A more concrete date related to the film comes from the Viz Cinema theater at San Francisco's New People. They'll be screening the film there on September 14.
