Discotek Licenses Mazinger Z and Cutie Honey

This past weekend saw the announcement of two new licenses from Discotek Media, and they're a couple of real doozies for fans of classic anime. Discotek saw fit to dip into the iconic catalog of Go Nagai by picking up both the complete 1973 Cutie Honey anime and all 92 episodes of super robot series Mazinger Z.
Cutie Honey will be released in a complete DVD box set next year, containing all 25 episodes, while the first set of Mazinger Z is gunning for release at the end of 2013. Both series are based on the respective manga created by Go Nagai, with Toei Animation producing the anime versions.
Anyone looking forward to picking up some classic anime next year?

This is fantastic news, both for super robot fans, and the american anime market as a whole. In a period where many companies aren't taking many risks, it does me well to know Discotek is still willing to do so, especially with classic series.

I think this is great! I have wanted a DVD box set of Mazinger Z for years. While new anime is awesome it's important and fun to enjoy some of the earlier stuff that helped make anime what it is today. In addition, some anime fans only know of Mazinger Z or "Tranzor Z" from model kits or action figures;having Mazinger Z available on DVD will give viewers a chance to see him in action, revisit old memories and share something really cool with their kids.
