On Wednesday, Shogakukan's
Flowers—a magazine that serializes the prequel to Yu Watase's
Fushigi Yugi,
Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden—announced a very different venue for the popular shojo series.
Promotion company Amipro is producing a stage adaptation of Watase's work. Directed by Shintaro Sugano, so far the only announced cast member is actress Mao Miyaji.
The show will be performed over a five-day period at The Pocket theater in Nakano, Tokyo, with nine performances scheduled from October 20-24. Updates on the cast may make their way onto Shogakukan's site, but for now here is the original announcement page.
Anyone here a Fushigi Yugi fan? Dramatically costumed shojo fare like this is certainly suited well for stage performances.
