Remember Tetsuya Nakashima's 2004 live-action adaptation of
Kamikaze Girls, based on the light novel by Novala Takemoto? It's okay if you don't, but just be aware that it was primarily known for its flourishing color palette and garish use of text and other exclamatory titles slamming on screen. To some this was a good thing, to others it was the ultimate sign of style over substance. I kind of dug it, for whatever that's worth.
Nakashima has a new film coming out, and from the looks of the teaser, it's quite the visual departure from Kamikaze. Kokuhaku (Confession) centers on a school teacher (Takako Matsu) on the path of revenge against teens who killed her daughter. The muted tones alone make this distinctly different from some of the director's past work, so it should be interesting to see how the final product turns out.
