It seems like just yesterday we were all grousing over Warner Bros. now on-hold Akira adaptation, but it looks like the next hot manga/anime property in line is Bleach.
Though there have been rumblings concerning a live-action adaptation in the past, Variety reports that Warner Bros. has purchased the rights to Tite Kubo's series, and is moving forward with Wrath of the Titans' Dan Mazeau on the script.
Get Smart's Peter Segal is attached as a producer, with the possibility of being the film's director. Segal, speaking to Variety: "I've always been a huge fan of Bleach and have great respect for its creator Kubo-sensei and the truly original and amazing world he has created in this manga."
Segal's business partner Michael Ewing is also producing, along with
Heroes star Masi Oka, and Jason Hoffs at Viz Productions. Branon Coluccio is the project's executive producer.
What do you think? Is there any chance a live-action Hollywood Bleach film could work, or is it fated to end up like Dragonball Evolution?

Well, it's truly funny how Time-Warner has nearly expelled almost all Anime from it's Cable Networks and never allowed Anime Central as far as I know onto their Eastern Seaboard Cable Market because of preassure from Parent's Television Council, The 700 Club, & Yes, I'm not lying or embellishing George W. Bushe's Rants before Congress........HBush committed this in 2004 and is recorded CNN's script Page archives..............But, they purchase the rights to a popular Anime/Manga Title with intent to make it into a Live Action Movie. Makes no sense what so ever

OK, here is where Hollywood would screw up - they would have to use a lot of CGI - examples - the hollows, Orihime's Shun Shun Rikka, Uryuu's arrows, and several other situations and characters. Of course, this may turn out to be better than the DB movie, but I'm not going to hold my breath. (I apologize for a spoiler or 2, but I'm sure that everyone has seen the first season)

Wow...well, I'm not sure what to make of it. Wonder who's gonna be in it?

Well, "The Magnififcent Seven" (based on "The Seven Samurai") proved to demonstrate how an americanized remake of a Japanese fiction tale can be done and still be a hit. And "Bleach" does have a lot of western hair styles and non-asian-looking people. So no way can a U.S. Bleach movie fail, as long of course most of the names are replaced and the narratives can be well pronounced by the mainstream moviegoers while telling a story of grim reapers.
Good luck, Segal! I'm rooting for ya'!

Umm, could anyone fill me in on Bleach because I am a serious anime fan but since I am in school, there are hectic days of homework that I can't even watch anime!

I really don't think that a live-action film will ever work for Bleach, even if they get the best special effect guy in all of Hollywood the Hollows will never look right, neither will the shikai's and bankai's special abilities.
