I first read this news early in the morning, and my pre-coffee brain read it as "Yoshihiro Tatsumi Nominated for Oscar." I didn't even think it was strange, just "sure, why not?" That's what happens when you grow to depend on caffeine, so take that as a lesson, kiddos.
The reality is just as good to hear, though, as gekiga king Yoshihiro Tatsumi—whose semi-autobiographical tome A Drifting Life is a must read for any fan of comics in general—is one of thirteen nominees up for the 2010 Eisner Hall of Fame. He's also the only mangaka nominated, and those in the industry have until March 31 to cast their vote online.
In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for Tatsumi, he's certainly earned it.
