Admit You Like These Anime and Prepare for Scorn, Say Japanese Fans

For those of you out there who might harbor the illusion Japan is a magical land where everyone loves anime and no one cares if you’re a grown man who watches shows meant for young girls, this list might be a hard read.

Japanese site Sirabee asked its readers to list the anime series that are hardest to admit you like in civilized company, and the results are below.

10. Girls und Panzer

9. Bakemonogatari

8. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

6 (tie). Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions

6 (tie). Lucky Star

5. To Love-Ru

4. Card Captor Sakura

2 (tie). The Idolmaster

2 (tie). K-On!

1. Love Live!

Even if your favorite anime isn’t on the list, don’t breathe a sigh of relief just yet, says Sirabee. Apparently over 40% of Japanese adults aged 40+ are turned off at the mere mention of anime in general. Concludes Sirabee’s writer: “though otaku culture has made great strides, not everyone has yet realized its appeal.”

Bummer.
