AKB48 to Make Anime Expo 2010 Appearance

AKB48, the pop group that calls Japan’s famed Akihabara their permanent home, is set to appear at this year’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The July 1-4 convention will not only be host to an AKB48 concert, but also attendee panels, autograph sessions, and meet-and-greets over the course of the weekend.

The concert itself will take place at the Nokia Theater on July 1. This isn’t the first stateside appearance for AKB48—whose latest single, “Sakura no Shiori,” sold an impressive 370,000 copies in the first week of its February release. One of its sub-groups marked AKB48’s US debut at the 2009 New York Anime Festival.

So, any AKB48 fans here officially getting pumped for the summer con season?
