Blood Lad anime details emerge

Details emerged this week about the anime adaptation of the vampire comedy manga series Blood Lad, which has run in Young Ace Magazine since 2009. The anime series, which was announced way back in 2011, will make its debut this year, according to an article from Japanese website Anime Anime.

Blood Lad, the first volume of which was published in English last December by Yen Press, is the story of Staz, a powerful vampire in the demon world who secretly loves human culture – especially Japanese video games and manga. His counterpart is the dead soul of a Japanese girl who Staz vows to bring back to life, if for no other reason than to visit his beloved Japan.

The anime series’ website, which opened March 4th, revealed character designs as well as staff details. The director will be Miya Shigeyuki, best known as the director of Lupin III: Red vs. Green, while the character designs will be handled by Battle Girls: Time Paradox’s animation director, Kenji Fujisaki. The production company behind the whole project is Brain’s Base, who you may know from Durarara!! and Penguin Drum.

Vampires, demons and Japanese pop culture – Blood Lad certainly seems to tap in to a lot of the themes our readers dig. Here’s looking forward to it.
