Comic-Con: Anime Studios Team Up for Halo Legends

I’m a sucker for anthology projects, and I’m willing to bet a lot of our readers are, too. Both The Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight were wildly mixed bags, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? If one of the stories isn’t really resonating, there’s always another wholly different take to follow.

Well, now it’s the Halo franchise’s turn, which may or may not elicit groans depending on one’s fondness for the Microsoft/Bungie flagship series. Halo Legends will be a seven-part collection of shorts by the best in the anime biz, from Studio 4ºC (Tekkon Kinkreet, Mind Games) to Production I.G. (Jin-Roh, Ghost in the Shell), Bones (Wolf’s Rain, Soul Eater), and so on.

The style across each short seems to be a mix of traditional animation and CG, the latter naturally looking closest to the that of the games themselves. As far as a sampling of the content to come, Legends will explore the history of the Spartans in two parts (kind of like the Renaissance chapters in Animatrix), and Production I.G.’s short, “Codename Duel”, digs into the hierarchy of the Covenant’s Grunts.
