DD Fist of the North Star Goes Super Deformed

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Buronson and Tetsuo Hara’s Fist of the North Star manga, a new version of the super-deformed DD Hokuto no Ken anime is preparing to air in Japan this spring. The series adapts the Comic Zenon gag manga by Kajio, and follows up a 2011 series that also saw Hokuto no Ken‘s manly characters shrink down to pint-sized proportions.

The premise puts a spin on the original story, revealing that mankind was not engulfed in the flames of nuclear war in 199x. Instead, Kenshiro and the rest of the cast deal with more mundane problems. Original Kenshiro voice actor Akira Kamiya—who has also played roles such as Kogoro Mouri in Detective Conan and the title role in Kinnikuman—reprises the role in SD form after skipping out on the 2011 version.

Watch as the 2013 edition of DD Fist of the North Star—directed by Akitaro Daichi (Fruits Basket, Poyopoyo)comes to life in the announcement promo below.
