Gundam: Iron Blood Orphans Subtitled Trailer Released

The latest Gundam series was teased on Twitter last week, with a promise that images and information would be released in an announcement event July 14th translated to multiple languages. Well, the 14th was yesterday, so the cat is out of the bag, with the series’ official website opened and a video released of the press conference’s proceedings.

The video below summarizes the entire event and shows some additional visuals and concept art, but if you want to skip straight to the trailer, just click here.

We can’t help but notice that it contains a lot of shirtless male flexing for a Gundam series. On one hand, this seems specifically like a move to bring in more of the Free! audience this time around, yet simultaneously it seems to inject a bit of testosterone to the mix that may also appeal to the male audience. The olive drab fatigues and desert tan mobile suits also have a bit of an old-school vibe to them which remind us of Gundam 0083 just a bit.

The story is set 300 years after a conflict between Earth and Mars known as the “Calamity War”. Protagonists Mikiazuki Augus and Orga Itsuka are members of a private security company called Chryse Gaurd Security (CGS). When they are sent to escort an emissary named Cordelia from the Martian city of Chryse to Earth, they are attacked by a group named Gjallarghorn, and a new conflict breaks out.

The show is helmed by Tatsuyuki Nagai, with scripts by Mari Okada. The characters designs are drawn by Yu Iton (Shut Hell, Imperial Guards) and adapted for animation by Micihnori Chiba (Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Mobile Suite Gundam AGE). Mecha designs are done by Naohiro Washio, Kanetake Ebikawa, Ippei Gyōbu, Kenji Teraoka, and Tamotsu Shinohara.
