Kenichi Sonoda’s New Anime Is Riding Bean, Gunsmith Cats Crossover

Bean BanditIf you were watching anime in the 90s, there’s little doubt you saw something either created or character-designed by the legendary Kenichi Sonoda.

The director/writer/creator’s been out of the game for a while (running his family’s centuries-old confectionery, apparently!) but it was recently announced he’d be back with a new anime called Project [B.B].

Now it’s been revealed (to little surprise for Sonoda fans) that B.B stands for Bean Bandit, a signature Sonoda character who appears in both Riding Bean and Gunsmith Cats.

The official Twitter account for the project has also revealed several sketches for the project featuring Bean Bandit and Rally Vincent from Gunsmith Cats. An official trailer will be shown at Anime Central in Rosemont, Illinois May 18. The project will be at least partially funded by Kickstarter.

Separately, AnimEigo, the company which holds the rights to the Gunsmith Cats OVA (1995-1996), just wrapped up their Kickstarter for a Blu-ray release.

Here’s looking forward to some Kenichi Sonoda action!
