Mangaka Board Game Expands to the World of American Comics

Disclosure: Game designer Jason Thompson is the Manga Editor for Otaku USA magazine.

If you haven’t had a chance to try Mangaka: The Fast & Furious Game of Drawing Comics before, it’s essentially a card game based around drawing comics featuring manga-inspired themes and trends. The folks at Japanime Games and Mock Man Press are preparing to follow that one up with a new, American comic-themed version called Cartooner, and the project just went live on Kickstarter today.

Cartooner is a pretty straight-forward and accessible concept for both artists and non-artists, but the pitch video below lays it all out nicely.

The set comes with 64 pre-printed comic pages, 136 Theme Cards, 52 illustrated Trend Cards, 200 Fame Tokens, and the rulebook. Here’s a closer look at some of the illustrations by Konstantin Pogorelov.

The campaign is live now, and is looking to raise $25,000 over the next month or so. You can find out more info and see even more art over on the Cartooner Kickstarter page.
