Mardock Scramble: Trilogy is getting ready to hit Blu-ray in a three-film pack that includes The First Compression, The Second Combustion, and The Third Exhaust. The three films made their debut in Japanese theaters in 2010, 2011, and 2012, respectively, and
is scheduled to arrive on June 9.
The story of Mardock Scramble follows Rune Balot, a young sex worker who survives an attempted murder at the hands of a nasty gambler named Shell Septinous. After escaping death once, Rune is rebuilt as a cyborg thanks to Dr. Easter, kicking off her quest to bring Shell to justice and right the wrongs done to her without dying a second time along the way.
Mardock Scramble started out as a series of novels by Tow Ubukata (Ghost in the Shell: Arise, Fafner EXODUS), illustrated by Katsuya Terada (Blood: The Last Vampire character design, The Monkey King manga) and published in English by Viz Media. Since its original 2003 Japanese publication the series has inspired manga and anime adaptations, including the series of films in question. Produced by anime studio GoHands, all three films in the trilogy are directed by Susumu Kudo (series director on K and Coppelion) and written by Tow Ubukata.
includes both the theatrical and director’s cut versions of all three films—along with a handful of special features—and it’s available to pre-order now in advance of its June 9 release.
