Masaaki Yuasa Teases Next Film at Annecy Film Festival

Masaaki Yuasa Teases Next Film at Annecy Film FestivalMasaaki Yuasa has every right to take it easy. The director pumped out back-to-back films in 2017 (The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl and Lu Over the Wall) and followed them up with the year’s most talked about anime, Devilman Crybaby, this spring.

But the director is working on his next feature, which he teased at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France Thursday.

Comic Natalie quotes Yuasa as saying, “I’m working on a more simple, straightforward film than what I’ve done before. It’s a love story.” The director added that more about the film will be announced soon.

The Tokyo International Film Festival, which takes place in October, will host Yuasa as their featured animator this year. Previous directors featured at the festival include Hideaki Anno, Mamoru Hosoda and Keiichi Hara.
