Mewtwo Strikes Back (Again) in Next Pokémon Anime Film

We just got the 21st Pokémon anime film in U.S. theaters, but it’s already time to start looking ahead toward the 22nd. Next up is a return to the film series’ roots in Mewtwo no Gyakushuu Evolution, AKA Mewtwo’s Counterattack Evolution or Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, a second visit to the subject matter of the very first Pokémon movie that debuted back in 1998.

This one’s coming in hot just a few days under 21 years later—the first movie opened on July 18, 1998—when it premieres in Japan on July 12, 2019. A trailer was shown during The Power of Us screenings, but for now we’ll have to wait to see it along with more information.
