During an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon manga, the wishes of many long time fans were fulfilled. Takeuchi joined idol group Momoiro Clover Z and publisher Kodansha in announcing a new Sailor Moon anime adaptation, planned for summer 2013.
Momoiro Clover Z will be performing the theme song to the anime, which is intended for a simultaneous worldwide release. The song they’ll use as the theme was not specified, but the group did perform the original anime’s theme, “Moonlight Densetsu,” at the event.
There weren’t many further details divulged about the upcoming anime, though Kodansha editor Fumio Osano did confirm that the project is not a film. Hopefully we’ll learn more soon, but for now we can simply soak in the good news! Who’s excited for more Sailor Moon?
