Skating Gold Medalist Cosplays as Madoka Magica in Japanese Commercial

Skating Gold Medalist Cosplays as Madoka Magica in Japanese CommercialReal-life professional ice skating and anime collide… and for once, it has nothing to do with Yuri on Ice!

Alina Zagitova, Russian ice skater and winner of a gold medal in the 2018 Olympics, has debuted in an ad for the Madoka Magica smartphone game, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gaiden. In the ad, Zagitova skates to “Hikari Furu,” the theme from the second Madoka film, and is even decked out in Madoka cosplay.

The ad was created to promote the first anniversary of the Magia Record game.

In a making-of video, Zagitova, while holding a toy of Madoka’s Kyubey, says that she thinks the costume is very beautiful, and states it’s the first time she’s ever worn something like it. She also remarks that Kyubey is a very mysterious creature, but “totally cute.”

It’s also pretty clear she’s never seen Madoka Magica or played the game, but whatever! S’not her job, man! Enjoy some Olympic-level Madoka Magica skating action!
