Sword Art Online Movie’s February Release to Be Worldwide

Over the weekend we posted Aniplex of America’s new English trailer for Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale, and Kadokawa followed up on Monday with some interesting info. According to the publisher, the film’s February 18, 2017 debut will mark a worldwide release.

While there aren’t further details on the release itself, previous announcements stated that Ordinal Scale will be screened in around 1,000 theaters worldwide. Kadokawa’s update also noted that Reki Kawahara‘s light novels have sold 19 million copies around the globe. Here’s a breakdown of those numbers: Japan (12.5 million), China (3.73 million), Taiwan (1.45 million), South Korea (770,000), North America and the United Kingdom (370,000).
