Thee Michelle Gun Elephant’s Final Show Turned into Film

It’s been some time now since Japanese band Thee Michelle Gun Elephant split up, dialing the clock about six years back to October 11, 2003, when the breakup was first announced. Considering until that point they had been together since 1991, that’s certainly not a terrible run. Unfortunately, July 22 of 2009 saw the crushing blow of guitarist Futoshi Abe’s death due to an acute epidural hematoma.

Both Abe and Thee Michelle Gun Elephant won’t be forgotten, though, and their final performance from the 2003 show has been remastered and “turned into a film” thanks to the latest in imaging technology. Michelle Gun Elephant Thee Movie – Last Heaven 031011 will cross the nation after its debut at Cine Saison Shibuya.

A companion film, Thee Scene – Last Heaven 031011, will also be taking a mock tour route by hitting live venues in Japan around the same time. Other releases include a 2-disc, 32-track “Thee Greatest Hits” album, and a 10-disc “Thee Live” DVD set.
