On the surface, the rural village of Hinamizawa seems practically idyllic. Despite its minuscule scale, that’s certainly the impression Keiichi Maebara gets when he moves there, but it doesn’t take long for the horrifying secrets of the town to come bubbling to the surface. You can discover them for yourself in Sentai Filmworks’ When They Cry Complete Collection, which is coming to Blu-ray on December 12.

Keiichi is initially thrown off by the size of the town—there’s only one school!—but thankfully he soon meets four girls willing to let him into their circle. Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Hojo, and Rika Furude bring Keiichi to their afterschool club, after which a sense of normalcy starts to set in.

That feeling doesn’t last long, though, because Keiichi starts seeing strange things around town. It turns out the project manager of a controversial dam project was found dismembered five years ago, and that’s only a small sample of the murders, disappearances, and rituals that plague Hinamizawa. Could this town actually be cursed?
