your name. Director Doesn’t Have Much Interest in Hollywood’s Remake

your nameIt’s always interesting to find out what anime directors think of the live-action remakes that eventually come to pass. In the case of your name., J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production house are producing a live-action adaptation along with Paramount, so let’s see what original director Makoto Shinkai has to say about it.

Shinkai mentioned Hollywood taking on his film during a recent press event. He said, “I often compare my works to my children … but I don’t have much interest in how my kids will turn out.”

It sounds like Shinkai is just fine letting this one free to become its own thing.

He continued:

“There was the announcement that Hollywood was making [a your name. movie]. However, while at the same time looking forward to it, I felt like this was the beginning of a journey, and what kind of adult it would be was a question for the work itself.”

Much like Shinkai, we’ll have to wait and see how this one turns out for ourselves.
