Your Name to Get Live-Action Hollywood Remake from J.J. Abrams
Your Name gets Hollywood adaptation

Your Name, Makoto Shinkai’s hit 2016 anime film, will be adapted into a live-action Hollywood remake, it was reported today.

The film will be produced by Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot, the production company of J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

Abrams, Lindsey Weber (10 Cloverfield Lane, Star Trek Beyond) are signed on as producers, and screenwriter Eric Heisserer (Arrival) will pen the script. Genki Kawamura, who produced the original anime film, is also listed as a producer.

Hollywood Reporter quotes Your Name director Makoto Shinkai as saying, “Your Name is a film created with the innate imaginations of a Japanese team and put together in a domestic medium. When such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of. I am looking forward to the live-action film with excited anticipation.”

The original Your Name is the fourth-highest grossing film of all time in Japan and the highest-grossing anime film worldwide.
