Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of Akira, is headed Stateside.
The manga-ka and director will be a Guest of Honor at Anime Expo 2019. That alone is pretty darn exciting news (the last time he visited AX was 1991!), but he’s also expected to announce a new project at the con.
Or as AX themselves put it:
We are ecstatic to welcome the legendary Katsuhiro Otomo to Anime Expo 2019! We’re welcoming him back to Anime Expo after his previous appearance at AnimeCon 1991, which was our predecessor event! He will participate in a panel on July 4th at 5:00 pm where he will announce a new project!
The panel at which Otomo will announce his new project takes place July 4 from 5 to 6PM. A very happy 4th of July indeed.
Aside from Akira, Otomo created or was involved in Roujin Z, Memories, Short Peace and much more.
