Crossover RPG Project X Zone Announced for North America

Project X Zone, the mega-crossover game that mixes the worlds of Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom, was pretty much always considered a “no way will that get localized” title. Earlier today Namco Bandai did away with that notion by announcing Project X Zone for release on Nintendo 3DS in North America, with plans to cross it over to our end this summer.

For those who haven’t been keeping tabs on it, Project X Zone isn’t the fighter one might expect from such a collaboration. Instead, it brings grid-based strategy to 3DS with characters ranging from Tekken fighters to Space Channel 5‘s Ulala. It all adds up to over 50 characters from 29 game franchises, and players can explore the game’s world in teams of two known as Pair Units, with the ability to add an additional character to assist in battle.

There’s more where that came from, too. Namco Bandai also formally announced plans to bring One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 to North America as a PlayStation Network exclusive, and they’ll also be throwing down the card-fighting gauntlet with Tekken Card Tournament.

What better way to celebrate it all than with another look at the Project X Zone opening movie?
