The Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie made its way through weekend number two in Japan, and it’s officially taken the top spot. Its total gross thus far in Japan has hit ¥1.46 billion, which is 22% of the movie’s $58 million opening weekend gross in the United States. The domestic numbers alone have already given Detective Pikachu the best U.S. opening ever for a movie based on a video game.
Avengers: Endgame took the number two spot in Japan, and Detective Conan‘s 23rd anime film continues to rake it in even in third place. As of this past weekend, Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire is rapidly approaching the ¥8 billion mark.
