The oft-rumored plans for Neon Genesis Evangelion director Hideaki Anno to helm a Shin Ultraman movie have finally come to fruition. Before we go any further, though, don’t fret. Anno will only be joining the crew of the new Shin Ultraman project after his work is complete on June 2020’s Evangelion 3.0+1.0 anime film.
With that sigh of relief out of the way, Khara has shared a few pieces of info about what’s in store for Shin Ultraman. In a move that mirrors the production of Shin Godzilla, Anno will be teaming up with director Shinji Higuchi once more. The two are forming a creative partnership called Higuchi-Gumi, with Higuchi to direct while Anno produces and handles the script. Main cast members revealed thus far include Masami Nagasawa, Takumi Saito, and Hidetoshi Nishijima.
The Tsuburaya Productions, Toho, and Khara film will be distributed by Toho and is currently set to hit theaters in Japan in 2021.
