After finally heading to the stars, humanity was shocked to find only the islands of Japan inhabitable upon return. The strange new world that develops as a result lies at the center of Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, and

The new world order everyone returns to has them reenacting events of the past and following the guide known as the Testament. Their goal is to reach the stars once more, but thanks to the events of Testament Era 1413 the land of Japan has been invaded and conquered. 

Flash forward to Testament Era 1648 and we have a glimmer of hope in the city ship Musashi and its traveling Japanese refugees. Tori Aori, head of Musashi Ariadust Academy’s Supreme Federation and President of the student council, sees a window of opportunity and potential signs of change when the Testament stops revealing what happens after 1648.

Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere started as a light novel series written by Minoru Kawakami, with illustrations by Satoyasu. Manabu Ono (Saki – The Nationals, The irregular at magic high school) directs, with Tatsuhiko Urahata (Black Bullet, Monster) on series composition for the Sunrise production.
