This year’s Oscars may have snubbed anime and excluded any potential titles from an official nomination, but at least the Japan Academy Awards got it right. The Japan Academy Film Prize Association announced its nominees for this year’s 43rd Japan Academy Prize, including five anime in the running for Animation of the Year.
The nominees are:
Her Blue Sky (director: Tatsuyuki Nagai, pictured above)
Weathering With You (director: Makoto Shinkai)
Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire (director: Tomoka Nagaoka)
Lupin the Third: The First (director: Takashi Yamazaki)
ONE PIECE STAMPEDE (director: Takashi Ohtsuka)
