Japan’s Ministry of Health Distributes Free Sailor Moon Condoms

Japan’s Ministry of Health Distributes Free Sailor Moon CondomsIn the name of the moon, I will… protect you from STIs!

That’s right: Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare is partnering with Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi to make Sailor Moon-themed condoms. The ministry will distribute the condoms for free at STI prevention events throughout Japan in October.

The design of the condom package features a heart shape and a picture of Sailor Moon with the text “prevention of STI.”

The events will take place on October 5 in Fukuoka and October 14 in Hiroshima.

This isn’t actually the first time Sailor Moon has been used to increase public awareness of reproductive health. A few years ago, the same ministry ran a Sailor Moon-themed campaign to teach the public more about chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis.
