Junji Ito’s Gyo Gets Animated

If asked what Junji Ito manga I thought would make its way to animation, I’d go with Tomie, or maybe Uzumaki. The latter had a pretty solid film adaptation, and Tomie‘s seen more than its fair share. But no, the Ito horror getting the animated treatment is none other than… Gyo!

Those that haven’t read this twisted tale of legged fish taking to shore and assaulting Okinawa—Viz collected it in two volumes years ago—are in for something special. Actually, go ahead and track those down while you wait for it to be animated, and prepare to be horrified at the plight of Tadashi and Kaori, a couple trapped in the midst of this madness.

The anime will be announced in this year’s 14th issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits on Monday.
