Kekkaishi Starts Airing May 29 on Adult Swim

Yellow Tanabe’s manga Kekkaishi, which began its run in Shonen Sunday back in 2003, will now be airing over here in animated form. Viz Media has licensed all 52 episodes of the Sunrise series, and you’ll be able to catch it on Adult Swim starting on May 29.

The series originally aired on Japanese television from 2006-2008. If you’ve never read the manga, which Viz also publishes in North America, here’s a quick snippet from the press release that should give you an idea of what protagonist Yoshimori Sumimura is up against:

A story of mystical forces powerful in the region known as Karasumori. For over 400 years, it has been the duty of a clan of “kekkaishi”—barrier masters—to guard this land and exterminate the supernatural creatures that are drawn to it night after night.
