Leiji Matsumoto is Animating a Queen Music Video

Now that’s a headline that inspires excitement, fully deserving of the full sentence treatment. I mean, Leiji Matsumoto anything tends to get me amped, so throw Queen in the mix and it’s game over. If you’re just now joining us, Leiji Matsumoto is the legendary mastermind behind Galaxy Express 999 and Space Battleship Yamato, among other adventures into the great unknown, and has dabbled in work with musicians before with Daft Punk in the form of INTERSTELLA 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5star 5ystem.

Now he’s set to tackle a video for rock gods Queen, and will be throwing “Bohemian Rhapsody” in an animated blender with concepts from his latest manga, Out of Galaxy Koshika. The comic has been running on the Japanese Wii Shopping Channel in a collaboration between Matsumoto and Sunsoft since April.

November 24—the 18th anniversary of Queen’s former frontman Freddie Mercury’s passing—will also be host to the partial unveiling of “Bohemian Rhapsody ~feat. Leiji Matsumoto,” which will be distributed across Japanese mobile phone sites by the end of the year.
