A few weeks ago, we learned that Mamoru Oshii, he of the ghosts and the shells, would be helming his first anime series in three decades.
Now the deets on that series have been spilled.
It’s called Vladlove, and it’s a “girl-meets-girl” comedy series “without any handsome men.”
Oshii will serve as creator and chief director, while the role of director will be held by Junji Nishimura, perhaps best known for helming the Ranma 1/2 anime series. Scripts will be written by Oshii and Kei Yamamura (The Next Generation -Patlabor-). Character designs will be supplied by Issei Aragaki (animation director, Monogatari).
Vladlove will be supported by an “official ambassador unit” called BlooDye, which is made up of singers Kanako Takatsuki, Karin Isobe, Sayaka Akagi, Ayano Furutaka and Chisami Ito. They’ll perform the series’ opening theme, called “Kono Hoshi no Doko ka de” (“Somewhere in This World”). The music for the series will be produced by Daisuke “DAIS” Miyachi.
The whole thing is put together by Ichigo Animation, a new anime production company founded by Ichigo, a real estate, asset management and clean energy firm. The actual animation will be handled by Comic Animation and Drive with assistance from Production I.G.
The series will hit screens in spring 2020 and run 12 episodes.
Fans of handsome men, you may be in for a disappointment. Everyone else, look forward to Vladlove.
