Momoiro Clover Z Keeping Busy

We reported the other day super sentai-inspired, energy-filled idol group Momoiro Clover Z would be opening shows for Lady Gaga while she’s on tour in Japan. But that’s not all they’re up to.

Momoiro Clover Z, or Momoclo for short, are also the group behind “Moon Pride,” the opening song for the new Sailor Moon anime series. Considering the how legendary the original opening is (if you’re of a certain age, I bet you can start playing it in your head right now), it’s quite a big responsibility. The song, which you can hear on the currently-airing Sailor Moon Crystal, hits Japanese stores on the 30th.

The other cool story out about Momoiro Clover Z is that they’ve collaborated with guitar hero Yngwie Malsteen on a remix of their Bodacious Space Pirates opening theme song, “The Bodacious Space Symphony’s 7th Movement ‘Infinite Love’.” The Malsteen version, subtitled “Emperor Style,” (fitting for a guitarist who Time called one of the greatest players ever) hit iTunes last month.

The original, by the way, featured another legend, former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman, who lives in Japan.

It’s another sign that idol groups are collaborating with more serious-minded musicians. Heavy metal idols Babymetal, as well as Momoclo themselves, have had songs penned by some musicians more known for their work in underground bands, like Narasaki of shoegaze group Coaltar Of The Deepers.

What a world.
