The day many have been waiting for is finally here: Masashi Kishimoto’s new manga, Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru, hit the pages of Shonen Jump today.
The manga, written by Kishimoto with art by Akira Okubo, is described by Viz as “a futuristic tale of samurai adventure.” A preview chapter was released late last month.
To mark the occasion of the first official chapter, Kishimoto answered a few questions, which we’ve translated below:
If you had to give Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru a nickname, what would it be?
I definitely want to include the word “samurai” somewhere. The title’s a bit hard to compress down. Let’s see… let’s go with Samuhachi! I think that’s perfect. That said, this is just my personal suggestion. You should all come up with a nickname that’s easy for you. (laughs)
A message for the readers, please
I said this at last year’s Jump Festa, but… I’m working desperately to outdo Naruto! (laughs) I haven’t had a manga in serialization for four years, so I practically feel like a newbie. And the pressure from those around me is intense! (laughs) I need people to watch me on days with nice weather (laughs) … Now it’s just a matter of sending it out to readers. Everyone, please give Samurai 8 a look!
Who’s already taken a look at the first chapter of Samurai 8?
