The 23rd Detective Conan anime film, The Fist of the Blue Sapphire, opened in Japan this weekend, and it quickly broke opening day records for the series. The feature pulled in ¥422,465,000 on 313,724 admissions on day one, which puts it above the opening day for the previous champ, last year’s Zero the Enforcer.
For the past six weeks, the Japanese box office has been dominated by Doraemon‘s 39th anime film, Nobita’s Chronicle of the Moon Exploration, but that’s certain to come to an end with the arrival of Conan‘s latest. Zero the Enforcer previously ended its run at the top of the franchise with 9.18 billion yen in total, so we’ll have to wait and see how the full weekend pans out for this one.
