New Ghost in the Shell Film Announced for Summer 2015

Not to be outdone by Scarlett Johansson, a previously hinted-at new Ghost in the Shell anime film was officially announced on the 8th.

The new film, which will be released in early summer, will feature many of the same cast and crew as the recent Ghost in the Shell OVA project, Arise, including chief director Kazuchika Kise, screenwriter Tow Ubukata, and composer Cornelius.

The film will be directed by Kazuya Nomura (Robotics;Notes).

The voice talents from Arise, including Maaya Sakamoto, will also reprise their roles. It’s not yet clear, however, whether the new film is a continuation of Arise or takes places in a new Ghost in the Shell timeline.

This will be the third theatrical Ghost in the Shell film, following Mamoru Oshii’s Ghost in the Shell (1995) and Innocence (2004). A made-for-TV film, Solid State Society, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, was broadcast in 2006.
