New Sword Art Online Novel Arc Begins in 2017

With Sword Art Online‘s Alicization arc concluding with the 18th novel, it seemed as good a time as any for the series to come to a close. Author Reki Kawahara isn’t stopping there, though, because the latest volume’s release announces plans for the series to continue with a new arc in 2017.

There currently aren’t many details about the new story, but promotional material promises that “Kirito will return.” The Alicization arc kicked off back in volume 9, so that storyline alone has had a pretty lengthy run. Yen Press is nearly to its starting point, with the most recent English novel being April’s release of volume 7.
