Passing of an Anime Legend: Carl Macek 1951-2010

Sad news surfaced this past weekend, as word got around that anime pioneer Carl Macek passed away as the result of a heart attack on April 17, 2010. It’s nearly impossible to be too young to have been affected in some way by his work, whether it was through exposure to Robotech, or even one of the many influential Streamline Studios video releases he produced.

Even if you do happen to be too young to remember Macek’s most well-known contributions to anime in the US, rest assured they still reverberate throughout the fandom in many ways. I doubt I’d be here typing this if not for the Streamline dub of Akira, for instance.

Rest in peace, Carl, your work will certainly continue to live on.
