Japan was treated to a special visit from Pope Francis, who made his first trip to Japan this week. In fact, this marked the country’s first Pope visit in the past 38 years, so Japan pulled out all the stops to welcome the esteemed guest.
Pope Francis first stopped in Nagasaki before making his way to Tokyo, where he held an event called the Meeting with Young People at the Cathedral of Holy Mary. It was there that he was presented with a traditional happi half-coat, a garment typically worn during festivals. This particular happi featured a very anime Pope motif, and Pope Francis popped it on to show it off in all its glory.
