Reel to the Live-Action Space Battleship Yamato Footage

Far be it from us to sleep on something as staggering as a live-action Space Battleship Yamato teaser. Takashi Yamazaki—remember his earlier works like Returner and Juvenile? It’s okay if you don’t, I hardly do myself—is directing the VFX-heavy flick, with boy band SMAP’s Takuya Kimura in the lead.

The film is slated for release in Japan in December 2010. I’m kind of shocked it looks as good as it does, especially considering how the trailer crept up on everyone.
