Ponoc, the animation studio founded by ex-Ghibli producer Yoshiaki Nishimura, has announced the cast for the English-language version of its debut film Mary and the Witch’s Flower.

The title role will be played by Ruby Barnhill, the 13-year-old actor best known for her role as Sophie in Steven Spielberg’s The BFG.

Madam Mumblechook, one of the film’s other major roles, will be played by Academy Award-winning actor Kate Winslet, best known for roles in films like Titanic, Little Children and The Reader.

Meanwhile, Madam Mumblechook’s partner will be played by Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones).

Other actors rounding out the cast include Ewen Bremner, Lynda Baron, Rasmus Hardiker, Teresa Gallagher, Morwenna Banks and Louis Ashbourne Serkis, reports Variety.

Mary and the Witch’s Flower, which was released in Japan this July, is an adaptation of the novel by the same name and was directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (When Marnie Was There). GKIDS has licensed the film in the United States, and it’s expected to release the film later this year. Check out our review here.
