Shirobako Director: “I’m Going to Live in the Jungle, Don’t Try to Find Me”

Shirobako Director: “I’m Going to Live in the Jungle, Don’t Try to Find Me”Tsutomu Mizushima is a busy guy. The director, best known for Shirobako and Girls und Panzer, is working on sequels to both properties. The Shirobako movie is coming out next year, and the six-part Girls und Panzer finale series still has four films to go.

With that in mind, it’s not surprising that Mizushima apparently wants to get away from it all for a while.

We’re referring to a series of tweets that began August 27. In the first, the director wrote that he probably has about four minutes left of storyboards to finish. In the second, he wrote “but the tank battle is beginning.” Pure speculation on our part, but perhaps he’s about to finish the storyboards for Shirobako, and is about to start the latest Panzer?

In any case, a few minutes later, Mizushima tweeted: “I’m going to live in the jungle for a bit, don’t look for me.”

Nevertheless, he followed that up soon thereafter with: “I’d like to make an anime about public broadcasting on NHK,” referring to Japan’s public TV network. It seems like the inspiration is still flowing, even in the jungle.

In all seriousness, we hope Mizushima’s not overworking himself, and gets to take a few days off at some point — in the jungle or elsewhere.
