Tezuka’s Book of Human Insects Adapted into TV Drama

The nice thing about this news is that we’ll soon have access to Osamu Tezuka’s original manga, Ningen Konchuki (The Book of Human Insects, which Vertical Inc. is publishing in a single volume this July. Then perhaps we can compare it to its adaptation, as Ningen Konchuki is on its way to Japanese satellite station WOWOW as a live-action drama series.

The story follows Toshiko Tomura, a high school girl who instinctively steals the talents of people around her. It’s in this way that she experiences an insect-like metamorphosis through different stages—actress, screenwriter, designer, author, etc.

Model and actress Minami leads the cast as Toshiko. Joining her are Yukiya Kitamura, Shingo Tsurumi, and Kyoko Matsunaga. Broadcast dates for the series have yet to be announced.
